Depending on the hospital strategy, Sternasafe can be given to every patient after a sternotomy and especially to higher risk patients such as obese patients, smokers and diabetic patients.  SternaSafe provides good support and pressure around the thorax while coughing, protecting against the “gap” movement and enhances ventilation of the lower lung fields. SternaSafe has a supporting effect on the thorax during straining movements. The patient can mostly operate the Sternasafe themselves so that the mobilization process progresses more quickly. SternaSafe can help prevent respiratory complications and sternal wound infections. While using the SternaSafe during breathing exercises, the patient has less fear and less pain. Because of this, better post-surgical results are achieved.

SternaBra is a post-operative medical Bra, used for maximum sternum wound support after surgery. SternaBra provides a firm stabilization of the thorax and breasts, keeping sternal wound stress to a minimum. The SternaBra enables the patient to breathe deeply and to cough without fear of tension to the chest wound. It is advised to add and combine with Sternasafe Uni, especially for larger women. The Bra is worn under the clothes and the Sternasafe Uni is worn over the clothes.  The special breathing woven cotton offers a smooth, comfortable and well adjusted fitting. The strengthened crossed bands on the back guarantee a strong support.
